JC

finding my way home

The room was dim with dusk,
a day’s work settled like dust
over body and mind;
exhausted.

Well-worn thoughts
that wandered the wilderness,
thirsting for warm springs;
parched with desire.

She lay there,
still in the silence,
lost in tangled sheets.

Her face concealed,
waiting with a grin;
suffering impatience,
flowing with fervor.

The evening sun, having surrendered,
fades below violet mountains;
her form glows
with the pink of sunset.

Skin like a golden desert
surrounded by an emerald forest.
Rolling sand dunes shift
rising to meet my hands.

Begging me to meander
through sultry canyons
and over fertile mounds,
searching for her oasis.

Fingers exploring hidden pleasures,
crossing the River Jordan
into the land of milk and honey.

I sip on the dew of her excitement,
finding that promised land
and stay for a while;

knowing I was finally home.
