Serpent in Eden\'s garden
Came subtilly to men
See tree of good and evil
Take, eat, will fare you well
So spake he to Eve, she ate
Though had not tasted yet
Of that tree, but she, Adam
Did to deceit succumb
The Lord God He had spoken
Had showed them even then
That they may freely eat all
Save that one tree, their fall
For their temptations being
The fruit looked a good thing
Attractive, pleasant to eyes
They did not it despise
And too to make one wise it
Was, pride did not resist
Though having free choice, they ill
Did theirs, not God\'s good will
Yet promise of redemption
For souls of every one
Here made at this early stage
Of life, in history\'s page
