Did you build an open portal,
one to leave upon
One that takes you back inside,
one that plays your songs
Will your exit be an entry,
to that place you’ve always been
Will tomorrow be the past in drag
—as you shed that final skin
(Villanova Pennsylvania: February, 2018)
One To Care
Unschooled, undisciplined,
my spirit forged on
Past theory and dogma,
past anthem and song
A serendipitous storm,
thoughts, feelings, unshared
All masking together,
—with just one to care
(Villanova Pennsylvania: February, 2018)
To Fly Forever
My body aged—my spirit saged,
all time a fading lie
My wishes getting younger,
a bigger piece of sky
My body died—the world revived,
different than before
My spirit free to roam at last,
and fly forever more
(Villanova Pennsylvania: February, 2018)
Free Again
This morning I woke up
and was already dead
Words shrouding my body,
new verse in my head
I start to count backwards,
all time in reverse
The music still playing,
new song unrehearsed
This morning I woke up
to the end of it all
The grieving had started,
last memory a pall
The alarm had gone off
before life called my name
The emptiness over,
—my soul free again
(Villanova Pennsylvania: February, 2018)
