Dark to Light

Dark to Light

The growing mind transforms you.

You hide because the rain gets you wet.

You stand up because the falling snow buries you deeper.

Silence yourself because even you can’t stand your voice.

You don’t climb higher for fear of falling.

Don’t go in water for fear of drowning.

You quit when you hear the doubt in their voice through their encouraging words.

Give up when you feel the hand that pushes you back.

Stop when you see the invisible shield blocking you from the house of accomplishments.

Don’t want to continue when the darkness is visible at the corner of your eyes.

Sink to your knees when you see shadows.

Close your eyes when it reaches out to touch you.

And you sit there, think about nothing because that’s all you’re getting done.

But through all of that,

You stand up and walk.

Push through the shield.

High-Five the hand instead of letting it push you back.

Listen to their words instead of their tone.

Walk over the water with confidence, and climb mountains with your head up high,

because you like the way you hold yourself up, and the way the sun kisses your skin.

Sing out because you don’t care who’s around to judge.

Lay down because you know that you can make snow angels.

Dance out because the rain is only a little bit of water.

You do all these things because you know that you’re the only one stopping you.

So you take a deep breath, and take your first step.

And laugh when you figure out you can write your name in the stars.

Then you smile when you open the gates to success.
