In The Night

In The Night

I prayed for death in the night

And begged the grim reaper come

To take my soul a sorry sight

Grown distant from the Son

The evil there surrounded me

And gave me little horns

For all the ones that could see

I was bad and most forlorn

I struggled against the light one day

When a ray of hope did shine

To rescue me from certain grave

In the horror of the night

An angel there appeared to me

And slowly my life improved

Until from bad I had been freed

With my sense of worth renewed

Today I do not suffer such

As was usual then

And I pray the Son will keep me straight

With His grace to no end
