Beyond academia
its cause and effect
Lies a power inherent
above judgment and theft
Atop its ivory tower
and smothering vine
Consensus is trembling
—with truth on the line

From \'The Book Of Prayers\'
Love On Display
You come to the Lord
in only one way
On wings of forgiveness
—love on display
(Villanova Pennsylvania: March, 2015)
Last Goodbye
A Poet with nothing
left to say
On bended knees
gets down to pray
Belief on hold,
his memory churns
Sleep comes hard
dreams toss and turn
A new starvation
fatal thirst
This deprivation
unrehearsed
Last ounce of blood,
the page is stained
No letters form,
no thoughts remain
A Poet left
without his voice
Dark road to travel
single choice
The sun has set
and not to rise
His final word
—a last goodbye
(Villanova Pennsylvania: February, 2018)
Dying To Be Free
We have nothing to agree about,
there is no common ground
You clinging hard to all excuse
and me to reasons found
Thirty-five years and nothing’s changed,
as you relive the past
Our blood runs thin, our names the same,
you feast on what I fast
With history gone, there’s nothing shared
except to disagree
You hanging on to a dying past,
me, dying to be free

Arms Length
A vicarious metaphor
—the writer’s privilege
(Villanova Pennsylvania: March, 2018)
Beginning Again
From silver to gold,
the years marched along
As language emboldened
its words into song
The grey of my twilight
a welcome relief
All reasoned excuses
now another’s belief
As the winds through the canyon
blow the valley to sand
This ending now welcome
—a new beginning again
