Welcome to 2018.
Where we sit behind computer screens,
Clicking share on a Facebook post about school safety,
because in 2018 when you walk through the school doors,
you are a drop of water in a forest fire,
unhelpful and Afraid.
Welcome to 2018.
Where kids at the age of 5 know way to much about the word “fat” but, kids don’t play outside anymore. They watch mommy put layers of makeup on each morning, and watch her weigh herself on a broken scale where the numbers are letters that spell f.a.t.
“I wanna be just like mommy”
Welcome to 2018.
We see the wrong that we do,
but yet all of our words stay hidden deep within us.
Having so much to say but no one to say it to.
If you are not on national TV then why should we listen to you?
If you are not a size 3 then why should we listen to your concerns?
If you did not save that kitten out of a tree, then why should we listen to your opinions?
Welcome to 2018.
We put lights in our room to try and hide the dark nights.
Where we lay and realize we don’t have any friends because, we are so caught up on what filter to use on our recent Instagram photo.
So caught up with watching other people dive off cliffs into rushing water
that we never make time to leave the safety of our blankets and fake smiles.
We live a fake life,
in a fake reality.
So much that we have forgotten how to be people.
Welcome to 2018.
We think we know what love is
but,
we have completely forgotten how to grieve over the dead, and rejoice over the living.
The only thing we know to do is put a hastage with every tragedy.
We have forgotten the difference between a problem and, daily living because daily living has become the problem.
Welcome to 2018.
We try to live your life,
We try to copy your latest selfie because it got more likes then mine.
We lie and say that we had a great time
But really we wanted to go home.
Welcome to 2018.
Where we don’t know where that home is.
Welcome to 2018.
We spread out opions like wild fire.
Not realizing that we are the fire.
It burns our skin until we are a perfect skeleton, walking around with our head down low.
Smiling into our phone cameras.
Our tear ducks seem to be closed shut and, our fingers broken from typing so much.
Welcome to 2018.
We push our problems deep down to the depths of our basement that we have hollowed out.
Chipping away at our bones until there is nothing left but a deep dark hole where we have learned to store everything that made us human.
Welcome to 2018.
Where I will say my opinions loud and proud because they matter!
Where I will stand hand and hand with my family and friends.
Where I stand tall and proud!
We are the tallest skyscraper and you will hear us because we matter.
Welcome to 2018.
We are the future so, start acting like it.
