Mine

As warm as anyone else may be, I chose a warmth that felt familiar to my own.

I dreamed of her many timesa. She would link her fingers with my own, palm to palm. Skin to skin.

Her everything became my own, I wanted to know all and stand by her.

But she was not mine and I was not hers. She left me in my own world with no farewell.

And I could feel the crumble of everything around me. What I thought was there, was my imagination all along.

Her smile, her laughter and the way she bloomed had stunned me all too soon.

And once she was gone, I was left to wonder if she would ever come back.

Yet another warmth had taken my place by her side and that\'s when I knew.

I was never the possibility, I was the placeholder till she found her footing.

I was the distraction for her lonely nights while she was carefully creating something more with someone else.

And when I realised what my worth meant to her, I grew in value.

I seized the opportunity to rebuild and improve. As soon enough, her castle came crumbling down.

With the last string of hope in my heart, I reached a hand to her aid but she turned away from me.

I still think of her after all this time. Because in my darkest of moments, she was the only light I could see.

She was the remedy to my illness and to this day, I will never forget her.

She was the first I ever felt genuine love for and even if it wasn\'t reciprocated, she will always be my first real love.

As for now, I sit and wait. I welcome newcomers and wave goodbye to those who must go. For one day, I will find someone where I could be theirs and they could be mine.
