Tonight sleep eludes me
Away from the city the air is clear
Free from fumes and light pollution
My curtains are not quite drawn
It is dark and I can see a slice of starry night
The light from distant galaxies come to rest upon my retina
That light may have left its parent star millions of years ago
Long before Homo Sapiens
Perhaps when dinosaurs roamed the earth
Or before our sphere was formed
That star may now have burnt out
But its light continues to race unhindered through space
I reflect on time
Compared with celestial time
My allotted span on Earth is insignificant
A mere few seconds in a day of human life on earth
When I die and burn or rot away
The atoms of my body
Will go on for they can never be destroyed
They will be recycled
So in death we are all the ultimate recyclers
So we are not lost
Just redistributed
I get up and fully draw the curtains
Too many distractions
To hinder that elusive sleep
