Love Rules the Heart

Love Rules the Heart

I’m no stranger to love

My virgin heart of ten

The target of Cupid’s arrow

For an Angel I fell back then

But that was then, this is now

Learning to love again

I’ve found has a learning curve

Not as easy as when you’re ten

Because I’ve been in love before

Now I know how much is at stake

Love is a two way street

There needs to be give and take

Love is not a toy

To be played with carelessly

Real love is something

Your heart will cherish endlessly

Love is not a game

Not about what you lose or win

Real love is euphoric

About feeling the magic you’re in

That you care deeply

 For another heart

A heart that cares for you

So deep that it hurts to part

Grown adults know love’s rules

The bond of trust runs deep

Break that trust and you’ll cause

A broken heart to weep

My first love I’ll always love

I credit her as my teacher

Because of her I can love

Even if I can’t reach her

You can rest assured though

I’ll not pursue her

But I can’t guarantee

I’ll love you deeper

I can try to love you

If love will accept us

Held within its embrace

Building that bond of trust
