Drinker

Drinker

In another life

I acted out when I imbibed

Though the act was self-defeating

No matter the booze I was drinking

For a remedy I sought

In a big book that I bought

And I found the greatest help

With my struggle with myself

And happily I have found

I am the talk of the town

With the rumor that I now

Believe in a higher power somehow

And my heart is new

Since I gave up the booze

With my wrongs duly righted

With amends to those I slighted

Now sober I am better

And live my life free and unfettered

With no liquor that I want

Or other drug to rule and haunt
