Some nights you see the best in me,
Noting the ups and downs
In the so-called endless abyss
More commonly known as life.
Others, you sit back,
Watching as your breath fogs the window.
Staring into space,
As the water melts and drips down – below.
I watch your brain whir,
As each thought trickles down
As if through a crevasse in a mountain.
You stand silently in the corner
As a sequence of 1s and 0s
Find themselves rushing, pouring,
Before settling down to sleep
In a frozen tundra of a world.
And I can’t help but wonder,
Why would someone like you
Settle for someone like me –
A reprobate in the eyes of the machine.
My edges rough and cracked
Jutting out into an awkward
Silence.
Filling the air, now thick with fog.
Choking, choking, choking,
Until it’s gone.
