Tune: St Hilda
(\'O happy band of pilgrims\')
1 Peter 4 v.12-16
*******
Beloved, think it not strange
It not be out your range
Concerning the fiery trial
It not despise, revile
For it does come to try you
Your faith strengthen, renew
It not some strange thing happened
Will of God did it send
But rejoice then, inasmuch
You are partakers such
Of Christ\'s sufferings, that when
His glory revealed, then
Then you may be glad also
And exceeding joy know
If you reproached for Christ\'s name
In suffering or defame
Then happy are you, for rests
Upon you through the tests
The spirit of glory, he
The spirit of God be
Though men on their part they do
Speak evil then anew
But on your part sure He is
Glorified, true be this
But let none of you suffer
By these, do not incur
Suffering as murderer
No blessings will confer
Nor suffering as a thief
Shall only bring much grief
Nor as does of evil
It shall lead to your fall
Nor as a busybody
Interfering bold, free
In other people\'s matters
Peace shall be in tatters
Yet if anyone suffer
As Christian, do refer
To God, glorify Him, for
You bear Christ\'s name e\'ermore
