Barn Fire
In the night there was a barn
With its hay a 5-alarm
The vermin there forced to leave
With predators hunting excitedly
The rodents there ran real fast
Until the owl hit the gas
And spotted one in his scope
Running quietly as the calf awoke
Farmer Brown released the stock
And a little bunny there did hop
Hurriedly to another place
Far from the fire and relatively safe
Under moonlight the barn still glowed
With the scene like an ashen snow
As animals waited nervously
In the pasture and amongst the trees
There on that smoldering morn
Man and creature were forlorn
But remembered stories of the days
When neighbors raised a barn a day
The neighboring farmers came back again
To raise a barn for their friend
And the owl made a careful stop
Watching close the new barn’s loft
