Early One Morning

Early One Morning

I walked the floor at a quarter ‘til 4

With something on my mind

When someone knocking at my door

Caught me by surprise

He knocked again looking slim

And I thought he was trouble

Why else would a good soul be

So late at my eye bubble

The door creaked as it opened

With a smile on his face

When he said, excuse me sir

I’m sorry to knock so late

The house there came alive

With others peeping out

From curtains and venetian blinds

All about the house

The commotion soon ended

After he made his call

And the visitor thanked them for their help

With gratitude for them all

They all went back to bed

And finished with their dreams

And I forgot why I awoke

So early from my sleep
