The Streets Held

Ernesto Trejo

 Next Poem

Everyone all night
and what flickered were not lights
but people like yourself,
their dreams reduced to night air.

You followed a bird before it dove
into a tree, followed the woman who paused
before a lamp that pointed skyward,
a star that signaled to another star.
