One Thousand Poems are Caught in my Maw

Quemis

One thousand poems are caught in my maw
Chatty heart oppressed by my tongue and its law

A few hundred dances reside in my bones
But I've many chains for my sins to atone

A dozen songs sleeping inside of my chest
Are ruined by lungs which neglected protest

A handful of stories I've carried in mind
Find hands far too restless to narrative wind

A couple of reasons are behind my eyes
To keep waking up and mystery pry

A singular flame unfettered and whole
Impossibly fills such a cavernous soul.
