we were staring at the sky

pretending that we could fly

and I had wondered if we fell in love

would it be something you'd mind

 

then I shot you in the chest

watched the blood soak in the grass

and as I saw your heart roll out your ribs,

I knew it was for the best

 

the bullet hole opened wide

but with time, you grew content
