“I love you.”

Najwa Kareem

I love you but don’t speak to you like every day is new.

I love you but rarely come to see you.

I love you yet I hardly call.

I love you but the money for us I take to the mall.

I love you but I want to go to sleep.

I love you but instead respond to beeps.

I love you but won’t sit on your school board.

I love you but although it bothers you I continue to hoard.

I love you but the drive is too far.

I love you but because I argue with you so much we’re scarcely on par.

I love you but as you can see your extended family means nothing to me.

I love you but my extra time is mostly spent with those on my own family tree.

I love you but I let my ego rule.

I love you but I use you like a tool.

I love you but I'm slow to compliment you.

I love you but I don’t follow through.

I love you but I keep my ears clogged.

I love you but I keep the mirror fogged.

I love you but I don't smile and say thank you.

I love you but I lie to you.

I love you but the times I’ve admired you have only been but a few.

I love you but rush you like one in a crowded pew.

I love you but I only give you gifts on birthdays.

I love you but why is it not from Kays.

I love you but I’m unwilling to change.

I love you but don’t take chicken out of the range.

I love you but have never had you at my home.

I love you but now that you’re old I leave you to roam.

I love you but who you play with I could care less.

I love you but I’m immodest in front of other gazers in my dress.

I love you but won't admit I'm wrong.

I love but my once-in-a-while hugs are not very long.

I love you but I don't support you.

I love you but I won't remind you.

I love you but I cause you to weep.

I love you but I don't offer to sweep.

I love you but I only tell you what you want to hear.

I love you but I keep you in the rear.

I love you but mostly complain.

I love you but my life with you is lame.

I love you but I don't comb my hair.

I love you but I'd rather not share.

I love you but I eat nothing but sweets.

I love you but prefer other treats.

I love you but don't encourage you to the deen.

I love you but I often say things that are mean.

I love you but all I do is take.

I love you but my gestures are fake.

I love you but I only go out of my way on holidays and anniversaries.

I love you but I’ll let strangers watch you in any nursery.

I love you but only when I'm distressed.

I love you but only when I'm stressed.

I love you but only when you're with me.

I love you but I have you on lock and key.

I love you but won't inconvenience myself.

I love you but treat you like a dusty book on a shelf.

I love you but we don't have enough.

I love you but my frequent yells are like hand cuffs.

I love you but I’m slow to initiate.

I love you but my many unyielding ways I accentuate.

I love you but I want to be free.

I love you but care more about me.

I love you but care more about she.

I love you but care more about him.

I love you but prefer being with them.

I love you but adore my fancy car.

I love you but for you won’t reach for a star.

I love you but adore my diamond ring.

I love you but treat you like I’m a king.

I love you but haven’t been there when you’ve had pain in your knee.

I love you but when you come home I greet you looking like something that fell off of a tree.

I love you but answer you while watching TV.

I love you but my kisses are weak.

I love you but I’d rather you be meek.

I love you but I let go of your hand.

I love you but avoid talking to you about my day even if my feet walked the ocean sand.

I love you but won’t dance with you on the kitchen floor just for fun.

I love you but I want to stay home so won’t join you for a run.

I love you but have never asked you what’s your favorite song.

I love you but because I don’t keep in touch I didn’t know you had gone.

I love you but give you poison to digest because I know it’s what you like.

I love you but don’t speak up for you when being harassed on the pike.

These aren't my lyrics but I say them anyway - Those three words. Are said too much. They’re not enough.
