Plumbing

gillybee

I’ve been thinking about plumbing lately,
Specifically, drains and fountains.
Drains, nasty, stinking,
Heading downwards into darkness.
Hidden and covered over,
Carrying water, dull, used, dirtied …. fit for neither refreshment nor cleansing but
Fit only to slip shamefully away, under its own heaviness.
To soil and pollute everything it touches.
But ….a fountain ...
Visible, powered up,
Reaching heavenwards,
Surprising, splintering the sunshine into rainbow sparkles of promise.
Stretching, striving for the highest height,
Full of energy and light,
Sprinkling joy and expectation on those who are near to it.

I don’t want to be a drain, always heading downwards,
A carrier of uncleanness, blocked up to streams of living water.
Lord, please help me to be a fountain.

WELCOME GILLY Thanks for a challenging first poem ! Your poem pulsates with rhythm ~ much more a gushing fountain than a sluggish drain ! Love the aqueous analogies and the last line. "Lord help me to be a fountain" ~ AMEN ! Thanks for sharing ~ Yours BRIAN (UK)

Be that fountain a head up towards the light.
