The Guardians

She said she was tired of the blood on her wrists.
The scars, the sadness, the thoughts that stay,
The emptiness inside,
Made her desperate, to eternally waste away.

Ever since she was a little girl,
The elephants had impressed her,
She most definitely couldn't harm one.
So there she put them, one on each wrist,
To protect her, to love her, and help assist
Her get rid of the poisonous thoughts,
That into her mind, the weight of the world
had brought.

Sometimes I touch the giraffe upon my hip
I am impressed with my gentle touch,
...a touch that hadn't been so gentle before.
But I could never hurt my friend.
He covers up my pains, my insecurities, my fears,
My past, my hatred, my disgust, my tears.
He keeps me strong, he's made me new.
He brings me the peace of life.
My soul is renewed.
