As the last leaf falls🍂
Weaker and weaker by the day,
My life is near to being taken away.
My body curling at all the edges,
We’re getting closer to using sledges.
I’m lucky I’m near the very last,
I get a bit longer to think about my past:
The weather, the seasons, the sights we’ve seen,
It makes me think it could all be a dream.
There’s nowhere else I’d rather be,
than back in the summer, all happy and glee.
But I know my time is yet to come
I’m already feeling a little bit numb.
And there I go, falling to the floor
Every part of me feeling less sore.
And finally I land, so gracefully,
I’m as happy as a leaf could ever be.

- Comment from author about the poem: To me, this poem is all about letting go and accepting life as it is. Being happy with what you’ve got, even when it seems like everything’s going wrong. This poem is from the perspective of a leaf falling off a tree when autumn arrives. It is remembering all the great times in its life and getting ready to leave the tree. \r\nThankyou so much for reading! \r\nI hope you enjoyed it xx

Thanks FRIEND for a very elegant first poem in both Structure and Subject ! I love to watch "Local Trees" through the Seasons ~ and the leaves from Bud to Bucket (for the compost heap !) I love your analogy with the life of the leaf and our life span ! Even though on a deciduous tree an individual LEAF has a short life span it has lasting benefit for the Tree ! By the process of PHOTOSYNTHESIS a leaf converts CO2 (from the air) and H2O (from the soil) into GLUCOSE (C6H1206) and OXYGEN ! The plant coverts the Glucose into STARCH for energy and CELLULOSE for plant fibre ~ awesome. There is an analogy with HUMANS we live out our lifespan (80+ years) in the Community ~ BUT ~ the good that we do and the Family we produce live on to benefit the Community ! Thanks for sharing ~ an awesome POEM ! Yours BRIAN (UK)
