As your last stanza describes, taking time to reflect, \"Stir and replenish the fire once more\", is critical to the soul. A fine offering, Candlewitch!

when i was a teen my folks had a friend w/a Harley. his wife hated it and his kids weren\'t allowed near it so he kept it in the garage of the bank where he worked. whenever he felt like venturing out, he\'d call me to go w/him. of course i\'d go without asking my folks, and wouldn\'t tell them till after i got home. they hated the idea but cos of the friendship they had w/ the couple they wouldn\'t put a stop to it, which was actually pretty amazing cos they were very protective of me when it came to doing most everything especially dangerous stuff. anyhow, i loved going on that bike and we\'d go all over the city. even after i got married he\'d still call and i\'d go till i was finally pregnant...by then 29. when i told him i couldn\'t go the 1st question out of his mouth was \'are you pregnant?\' he knew me well enough to know i\'d never turn him down otherwise. we hadn\'t made the \'BIg\' announcement to anyone cos i\'d just found out and after 6 yrs of trying didn\'t want to jinx it so i swore him to absolute silence till we were ready to tell. oh how i still miss those days! thanks for bringing back those days even if just for a brief moment...i always felt \'bad ass\' when riding! LOL! :)

Aspirations
valene said:

ah yes aspirations....hope springs eternal...i have to believe in hope....so i have to try to ignore the idea that it\'ll expire...LOL!
having said that...i think this is really well written... the mirror image you\'ve created makes this an even more thought provoking write! when i first read it i thought of your endings as being \'eddy styx like\' but in a more controlled way. him not invoking his usual anger. as for me, i\'m still holding on the positive side of the \'hope\' definition of \'aspirations,\' so although i find the endings to be perfect for what you\'re expressing...i\'m gonna not take them to heart...LOL! :)
really good job c.m. mattison!

As a rider myself I just love your poem!
My 1988 Honda GT NT650 is a little bit smaller, but in the curves I can smoke any Harley!
By the way Cat, do you know why Europeans ride the sport bike way with the feet down or back and Americans the Harley way with the feet forward? Was told that it comes from the two different ways of riding a horse with feet back or feet forward!

Cat, I know aspiration stands for hope or ambition, but it also means drawing breath. This is what I had to do when reading it! Great Poem!

eddy you\'ve come thru again with your open, honest and, straight forward truth! game players are only out for themselves and their self satisfaction! your love your ending...ties it all up in a neat little \'bow\'...though i can\'t see you with a bow unless it\'s the kind that needs and arrow to go with! :)

Thank you Cat, how many times have I walked along the coast looking at all the tide pools. Some small, some large, but all beautiful. But now, after your poem I will be looking at them in a completely different way. You gave them personality!
