The Graveyard at Sea
L. B. Mek said:

\'His inner fire of conquest
Eternally it burns

As the stormy waves
Become monsters in the night\'..
these lines remind me of:
\'Life\'s a voyage
that\'s homeward bound.\'
by the great Herman Melville
of voyages upon oceans, you both write
where destinations
are the fulfilment of our lives: dreamed wishes...
wonderfully worded and carefully contextualised
a great read, thanks for sharing dear poet

Thanks for your poem and reminder of and background to the movie ‘The Perfect Storm’, AP. A rich picture you paint of the experience at sea.
Have strong memory (and coming from me this is an aberration) of the hymn, known popularly as ‘For those in peril on the sea’ not it’s proper title, I think. However,

I’m sure you would know it.

So true AP, those words seem to just float into our mind and demand to be written down to produce poems as good as this one is.

Living in the Shadows

\'Pride follows confidence
Failure to fear of success
There’s safety in the shadows
An ego to caress\'..
these words, hit home with unerring accuracy my friend..
wonderfully executed, a delectable read of poetic wisdom..
\'Smile from eyes of (blue)\'
*not the colour: but the feeling..
this be those weary blue\'s
those jazz beats, serenade
in songs of unflinching defiance;
as in Longfellow\'s, \'Psalm of Life\':
\'Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not its goal...\'

No Offence to Anyone
Goldfinch60 said:

I was a christian, I have been a Chaplain and had the belief in the christian god. My wife had sung a praised the christian god all her life but when dementia started to take her no matter how much praying saved her and eventully she was taken - WHERE WAS THE christian GOD WHENSHE NEEDED IT.
I subsequently gave up the christian idea of god but I know that there is My God which is there for me. I now believe that organised religion is a farce and a pack of lies.
I believe Jesus existed but I look upon him as the first Hippie - make love, not war.

May your god go with you AP.

A poignant write AP.
Anyone could just chirp out: \'God loves you\'. It makes us feel sick (and we\'re sick of them too) if they are \'all OK\' and life is cosy for them, maybe in a religious cliquey group.

I can agree with this AP, if somebody had told me in 2007 that I would start to write poetry I would have just laughed at them, then in 2008 I saw an artwork that my daughter had created and I had to write about it and have never stopped writing since.

Great poem AP 🙂 I’ve said similar things to myself ... looked back at some poems and felt confused ... and thought to myself ... Wow, I actually wrote that . It’s good to feel proud of your writings and to feel like they are good .

Great, I held the door open for a middle aged lady with a young child (probably her grandchild I thought). THe lady pulled a face as she passed and quietly snarned \"chauvinist\". Hmm I thought. If chauvinism be the irrational belief that one is superior to another, I guess one of us just showed the upper hand in manners and grace there. Smiling, I continued to hold the door for the next two people to pass through undeterred.

A great message in your words today, though many are in such a single minded rush that they are unable take part, it is good to hold the door and clear the way for them too.
