The Bottle in my Head

My comments on the poem \"The bottle” by lonelysoul
“The bottle retains it all, no matter how much one puts in.”
For anything to be poured into the bottle, that bottle must be opened. When it is opened, it is not in a position to refuse anything liquid. You can pour in as much as you like; the excess will overflow and make room for new stuff being poured in.
\"It always fits everything that is added no matter how filled it is.\"
In fact, it cannot fit in everything; it gets rid of some (overflows) to make room for more.
\"Hardly ever, anything comes out from it.\"
Unless there is some reaction inside, (causing some overflow), what is inside will stay there.
\"The bottle has been opened and the cap lost.
Everything overflows out of it now.\"
With the cap lost, the stuff inside is liable to get out.
\"Emotions, thoughts, and experiences.\"
Here, there is a comparison of the bottle with the human mind.
\"The
bottle is finally empty, but it has created a beautiful mess.\"
With the bottle emptied in a disorderly way, a mess is created. In the same way, if we empty our mind in a reckless, vocal way, we might cause ourselves trouble.
“If you your lips
Would keep from slips,
Five things observe with care:
Of what your speak; to whom you speak;
And how, and when, and where.”
-- W. E. Norris (1800-1893)
The mess from the bottle might be cleaned up easily, but the mess from our words will linger for a long time… The mess from the bottle might be “beautiful,” but the one from our words might come back to haunt us.
\"A mess that the bottle cannot clean up any longer.\"
In fact, the bottle itself cannot in any way clean up the mess it makes. We, too, might find it difficult to clean up the mess from our words or actions. Soman Ragavan. 25 July, 2023. //
