I've owned this book since it was first published in the late 1950s. It remains the best account of haiku I've ever read: their history, their Japanese grammar, and numerous examples, all given in romanized Japanese, in word-for-word translation, and in a coherent paraphrase in verse. A must for anyone who writes in this form.
