I read this as a Young Adult, which frankly wasn't that long ago, but I remember the relationship between the two lead characters Kaoru and Akiva was something that was so beautifully described that it warmed my soul.
If I had to match it to a book I'd say Romeo and Juliet, but without both of them dying.
And here is my favorite quote from the book:“Hope can be a powerful force. Maybe there's no actual magic in it, but when you know what you hope for most and hold it like a light within you, you can make things happen, almost like magic.”
