Why?

Sir Walter de la Mare

Ever, ever
Stir and shiver
The reeds and rushes
By the river:
Ever, ever,
As if in dream,
The lone moon's silver
Sleeks the stream.
What old sorrow,
What lost love,
Moon, reeds, rushes,
Dream you of?

After all these years, Sir Walter de La Mare’s work still fills me with a sense of mystery and pure wonder. His natural imagery takes me back to simpler times, reading his works as a young kid. He had a way of invoking feelings of nostalgia, sorrow, and contemplation all at once. Reads like these remind me just why I fell in love with poetry. His words truly stand the test of time.
