Making The Drag

Making The Drag

In the town where I grew up

Teenagers made the drag

There were no real race cars there

As we drove slow and lagged

We honked and waved to each other

As we poked along

Up and down a two lane street

While listening to eagles’ songs

Saturday nights were the best

Driving slowly with our dates

And stopping at the convenience store

Where we would congregate

Out-of-towners visited some

From neighboring little towns

With boys looking for pretty girls

To kiss and drive around

There was one red traffic light

That blinked when night was through

And we returned to our homes

In time for our curfews

Sometimes we stayed out a bit later

And frequently we found

That no good thing ever happens

After 12 in a little town
