Goodbye to a Beautiful Dream

Jim Yates

Goodbye to a Beautiful Dream

We meet many people in our lives

Most for a moment, never to meet or see again,

We have work colleagues, our friends,

Even the fair weathered kind

But most of all we have our family and loved ones,

The ones we can never live or survive without.

The ones who are the anchor to our lives.

Then, if you are the lucky kind, as I was

You meet someone different, someone of a different mold -

A golden thread to weave into the tapestry of your life

Someone who is an artist’s dream, oozing enthusiasm and ambition

With a sparkling effervesce for life, someone to inspire on the darkest of days

Someone to get your artistic juices moving like never before,

Someone to inspire you to write a play of a Parisian sparrow in pain

Or to take up a brush and create a canvas of many shades of blue,

Or compose a tale of three humorous felines observing the Human Condition

Or someone who inspires you to take up a pen

To write a Parisian rhyme or two.

Ah, but life keeps on turning as it’s meant to, as it always has and always will

And people change and move on to pastures new, in different directions

Down new adventurous roads,

To crossroads where life changing decisions are made,

And Time keeps on changing as it’s meant to, as it always has and always will.

Time brings wisdom and the wise always know when to let go, to move on

And wisdom has tapped me on the shoulder, and wise I will be,

I will loosen the small golden thread in the tapestry of my life

And allow its sparkling effervesce to be free to inspire another vision.

So, my friend, this is my goodbye to a beautiful, beautiful dream.
