Tune: Mannheim
('Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us')
Psalm 74 v.12-23 parts
******
The Lord God, He my King of old
Let all His wonders be told
He works salvation in the earth
Let us give Him His true worth
The day is yours, night yours also
Each one's ordainings you know
You have set all of earth's borders
Have made summers and winters
And too springs and autumns seasons
None without their plans, reasons
Remember, Lord, that enemy
Has reproached you, look and see
The foolish have your name blasphemed
Evil purposes they dreamed
O deliver not my soul up
To their will, their bitter cup
Save my soul, my turtle-dove here
From the wicked, I you fear
Forget not the poor people, they
Trust in you and to you pray
Have respect to your covenant
Unto humble, penitent
For dark places of the earth full
Are of habitations cruel
O let not the oppressed return
Ashamed, they for you do yearn
Let the poor and needy praise you
Arise, God, plead your cause true
Remember how the foolish do
Reproach you daily anew
Forget not voice of enemies
You who all their doings see
The tumult of them that up rise
Reviles and taunts are their cries
But do act God, for your name's sake
The wicked's ways shatter, break

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 878787. In verse 3, 'turtle-dove' is a poetic description of the Psalmist himself, not an actual dove!

I love that your soul is a turtle-dove Orchi......
Thanks Lorna. Yours too, I expect!
I don't know about that but they like my garden and coo outside my window!
