Hesther

words
were something we never used to struggle with
we'd talk for hours
each moment passing both slow and fast
as words would drop like rain
and a thousand messages would be delivered
in an instant
words held so much feeling and thought
we'd egg each other on to stay just for five more minutes
because we couldn't face the world without the other's words
then words thickened, weighed down
like someone had put a stopper in our river of speech
and moments just passed slow not fast

And now, I find myself struggling even
to form letters in my head.
