Not So Long Ago

Tom Wood

What do I mean

When I say hello?

Why do I wince

When your friends bellow?

I've been abandoned

Left cold, left to rot

The only warmth I feel

Is something I feel not

What are friends

When no one has your back?

What did you say

While you were in your warm shack?

You said,"lo, my friends,

Let us all be giddy!

For all of us here, are together firm

Anything else would be a pity!

For I am only

The best of friends

With those who are lucky

Those who don't have end!"

So, I'll huddle up

Admire the cold-biting, blowing snow

And remember longingly, the warm friendships

Of not so long ago

  • Comment from author about the poem: Honestly, I haven't sat down to write a poem in a while. I was listening to some music, and I was depressed, as normal. I flipped open the writer, and started writing. It reflects what I am going through. I am sure there is an end, but it isn't in sight yet. So, here is a little taste of it.
