Night

Brittany Jo

What it is about the night,

That makes my darkest thoughts come forth

Though still there in the light,

the darkness gives them worth

Over time my thinking intensifies,

assumptions get the best of me

They grow stronger when I close my eyes

And soon consume what’s left of me

My flooded brain is torturous

to my mind I’ve fallen slave

one thought too many becomes dangerous,

Cause in this darkness I feel brave

  • Comment from author about the poem: Tonight i’ve especially been drowning in my thoughts, worries, etc... And my anxiety was beginning to get the best of me. My mind always begins to race once i am settled for the night. This may not be one of my best pieces, but it distracted me and directed my mind into a different direction, and therfore served its purpose.

I thought you captured the sense of restlessness in darkness really well
