Dreaming Boy

Evergreen

Your eyes

When I look into your eyes

I see the milky-way unfold itself and shine array

When I look into your eyes I see a million dreams cast away

I see the passion driven hope you hold inside your eyes

And the love that keeps on floating by

I see them wide open staring at the ceiling lying in your bed

I notice all the little things that make you shake your head

But your eyes they shine and light up mine that are far too dead

They tell a story of a boy who never set foot on the ocean

And water crept up on his skin while he was sleeping

And it pulled him under before he could keep on breathing

So he lost control and let himself sink into the deep end

When he awoke he drifted on the shore

And found a girl of beauty and even more

She lifted him up and carried him above her shoulders

There was no weight that could keep her from carrying a thousand fallen soldiers

She fed and clothed him until he stood again

And love befell his heart and he would never sin again

Her smile shot daggers through his heart, he sees things from a broken lens

The night drew near and she tucked him in

She said “when you remember where your home is, I’ll return you then.”

He said “my home is wherever you roam, or with whom I am in love with.”

She leaned in for a kiss and he awoke to find a dream-like bliss that clouded sensibilities and vision of reality

And he looked down at me, with those eyes that show disappointment

Oh I should have known

That he would never dream of me
