He was like a predator, watching my every move, waiting for me to fall for him
He'd spin me tales of he and I and all that we could be
I laughed it off at first, the dreams of a boy
But then I started to listen
His accent, foreign, enticed me
His body fit perfectly with mine
And we played spoons every night
Intimate, I surrendered, ready for ever after
Where he and I would become we and us
For a time, this was the promise
Only, when he had me, he let me go
This boy preferred the chase to the meal
But my heart was too broken to move on
So instead,
I watched helplessly as he bought home more prey
Devoured and delighted them
Before he let them go
I never got to see their faces
But I wonder how many woman he maimed
Before he let them go
I wonder if he made the same promises he once made me
And if their hearts felt the same sorrow
I wonder how many there were before me
Before he let me go
