Blown Away

Gary Edward Geraci

i can’t make this veil i see into something other than a veil

*

i don’t jump up and down either upon learning about what’s really under it

*

but i’m blown away in awe none-the-less

  • Comment from author about the poem: Apart from faith, what’s really under it, behind it, or inside of it doesn’t, in the least bit, depend upon what I make of it. It’s our Lord! And it can be quite fruitful to contemplate the ‘essence’ or ‘substance’ of this great mystery. “Is it fitting?” A serious question to ask oneself when attending and praying during a period of Adoration before our Lord. One’s correspondence with grace and ‘mystery’ is tantamount to a deeper understanding and preparation for the eventualities that we were created for: eternal union with our Lord and communion with our Lady, the angels, and the saints in heaven. How one approaches such ‘mystery’ is very much connected to one’s faith. Saint Pope John Paul II, a man of enormous faith, in his address to the United Nations during their 50th anniversary (1995) said that this ‘mystery’, this truth of man, should not be coerced. Not everybody will define it the same way but everybody, sooner or later, by searching in freedom, with the ups and downs this entails, can come to discover that one, objective truth indeed exists. This is the goal we were created to discover; an adventure in search of truth - even if we vehemently disagree with one another in the process. If there exists such a truth then we all have a role to play in discovering it. Committing to search for the truth together is adventurous and is for all ages. And It requires, even demands of those participating, to live life to it’s fullest.

Erm, I suppose some us do jump up and down, in more expressive styles of worship. I'm of quiet personality, and my 18+ watchdog, Fido, (in a recent poem) keeps me from too much 'excitement'! heehee.

Thank you Orchidee - and I’m sure Fido too thanks you, a dog of mature years, for not jumping up and down as this might compel him to want to do the same. Although the Catholic Church permits a ‘charismatic’ style of worship, I have not been drawn to it. I got a tremendous kick in watching the faces of your fellow church men and women responding to the American, charismatic preacher invited to preside in the recent wedding of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle. Simply delightful!

Erm, the '18+' is in terms of any poems that should be marked18+ but which are not, by some naughty people. That starts Fido barking! heehee.
