Free-Verse Poem

Merissa

Time is an illusion,

Yet it plagues us all the same.

When you, for example,

think about life, what is it you see?

Do you remember the past,

Wishing to go back?

Or do you worry about the future,

Knowing your “time” isn’t free?

The thing is, that’s what most people do.

They choose one or the other,

When in reality we should focus on the present.

Don’t get me wrong,

It’s ok to think about both.

But remember that time is precious,

And it’s only there to an extent.

When we focus too much time on past or future,

We forget to actually live.

So worried about how we’ll turn out,

That we don’t decide how we do.

So again, time is an illusion.

But it’s important all the same.

Because without it,

Nothing would be new.
