“burn up that Polaroid” she says so coldly. “It makes me look ugly” disregarding the memories. He retaliated with a click of the box. “I want to remember these things” she snides “not me; Not after what you did to me” the ash from the cigarette burns a whole through her mind. This man is selfish, he’s been selfish for some time.

“That’s the night you smacked me” he looks up from that said picture of her in a fitted gold dress. “Get over it” he says. Tossing the small intricate photo back into his luggage. “I hate you” she seethes.

“But miraculously you managed to tell me otherwise”. She holds up her hands in a mocking manner “Love contradicts all things except for lies” one last breath and she snaps again. “I am no longer innocent because of you. I am a battered lonely woman with bruises to prove you made your home in”

she turns her head to the window behind her. “You invaded my castle”

“Killed all of my guards and now you sit in the throne next to mine. Calling you “mine” but I wish I had known that love was πšŠ πšœπš’πš•πšŽπš—πš πš”πš’πš•πš•πšŽπš› because now you sit on your throne saying things like-“

pausing to recollect on the soul he has disturbed.

”for you are the stump amongst chopped trees that keeps on tripping me. I’d love to shovel you out from the ground you nestle in my dirt and burn you to sut”

She turns Cooley once again

“I don’t know her this girl you see is no longer here“I wish you could wipe me from your memory because it’s best to pretend I’m dead than to believe you have another chance to kill me”

  • Comment from author about the poem: There’s a story a friend of mine told Me about her mother who suffered at the hand of an abusive boyfriend and how angry she had become after the relationship. I tried to envision this through the short story.
