a rose in the garden

haiwee

nothing made my heart break more

than you not thinking i was the prettiest rose in the garden

the glint in your eyes was meant for a flower adjacent to mine

yet, i was plucked anyways

plucked and left to wilt while the others grew taller

soaking up the sun while i was stuck in the cold embrace of your hand

one by one my petals fell off, my scent dissipated

and i was nothing but beautiful compost to fertilize the others
