Worthless human being

takes up precious space.

Ugly little thing

deserves to die.

"You're a disgrace to your race."

"Pathetic little mind."

"Your face is ugly,

Your legs are too big.

No one wants you

and you'll always be alone."

Anxiety and depression

overtakes the mind.

"I am worthless, I am weak.

I will never be anything

in my lifetime..."

Clash!

Opinions of others

do not define me.

How they labeled me

is not who I am.

So who am I?

I am strong and free,

beautiful and intelligent,

talented and extraordinary,

courageous and resilient.

This is me.

    Anasyil,

You’ve written an awesome poem! Your author’s comments are spot on!
Your write reminds me of a quote I’d give my students to help them deal with low self esteem problems!

“You will continue to suffer if you have an emotional reaction to everything that is said to you. True power is sitting back and observing everything with logic. If words control you, that means everyone else can control you. BREATHE AND ALLOW THINGS TO PASS!” by Bruce Lee

Love the way you have expressed this Anasyil. I wish someone had taught me this as a child. Once I worked it out my whole life changed.

Thank you so much! Debsspot, you should never change to satisfy others. We only change to better ourselves. It's never too late to love and embrace the person you are. I'm glad everything worked out in the end. I think it is usually experiences that teaches us variety of lessons. It's not easy to follow what our love ones say until we see it for ourselves.
