Bitter Candy

Daniela Alvarez

The falling. A strong feeling, when you meet someone and you like them in an instant, you already know from there it’s going to hit hard, like love at first sight. It’s a triggering feeling when you don’t know if the person likes you back. Then you feel it. The chemistry, the connection, the feeling of emotion. The loving. It magically happens. It's an amazing and thrilling moment that you swear you’ll never let go. Memories happen and love takes place in the best moments. Then it crashes. Too fast, too slow, too many emotions, too many actions. The trust wasn’t established and now tears are falling. Scared to let go, in fear of losing what you feel like its love. It's a roller coaster of feelings that you can't control. And now we wait. We let what has to happen, happen. It was breaking apart too fast and now you can't repair it. The breaking. The day comes. And then the night feels lonely and melancholy. He’s on your mind all the time, 25/8. It's like all the songs about love and break ups suddenly become about him. Desperate for him, for; The healing. And so you stop calling, stop texting, and you he’s suddenly not there anymore. He’s not on your mind. And when he pops up sometimes, he’s a sweet memory. A distant flashback that you smile at, appreciating the times that he made you laugh, he made you happy. And so these are the stages of love, bitter candy that you’ll taste someday. And when that time comes, you’ll make this poem, your own.
