Restless

Amy

As I gaze into the night sky a sudden flood of alleviation falls over me. A thing of beauty and wonder. I find it difficult to tear my eyes away.

A soft melody plays as I lie there, It seems as if I have found peace in a world with such chaos as this, but beauty not ever undeniable to find.

I find myself drifting away to a foreign land, my eyes impending closure, but not quite there yet.

Suddenly as quiet as a thief in the night a cold hand grabs my wrist. A stranger? No, something well know. If not experienced then heard.

It calls me from my security, I unwillingly follow as it drags me along. It twists what was once beautiful to a horrid inescapable reality. The melody, once peaceful, now torturous, as it taunts me of something that is not to come.

Time ticks by, but struggling is to no avail. Escape is to never come. Each night, beauty is forgotten as they come to drag me away, never to rest.

As I lie there, things once beautiful, now gone. I can only count down the seconds now, for all that is heard is the ticking of the clock as I wait for morning to come

  • Comment from author about the poem: Recent struggles with insomnia has led me to a bit of inspiration, as night which was enjoyable, seems to have become something inescapable as I try to find peace where it was easily found.
