Eyes wide open

poxyname

Darkness ...

My eyes won’t stick ...

All I feel is an endless tick, tick, tick,

A maelstrom of thoughts circle round,

In a sea of emotion, hopes, dreams and fears I drown.

The night is a blanket that smothers,

As I fantasise about all of the others,

the me’s that are handsome, brave & desired,

Who people look up to and I’m admired.

If only this, what about that?

My forces of sleep attempt a coup d’etat,

To overpower the fortress of awake,

But they fail and my brain starts to ache.

Time rolls on and day begins to rise,

My sleepy eyelids apart I must prise,

Ready to face this brand new day,

which I know I’ll spend wishing away.
