Peculiarly Lauren

I dream of you, of you and I

Miles away from roads-distances away from skies.

the clouds suck us up and the ocean is our music. The smell of the sea-by the sea is my perfume. The sand still sticks to my feet.

I call out your name, a familiar sweet loving thing. My fingers outstretch for you; my legs keep me glued. “Baby...” I say-I say as though it’ll be the last time I get to call you such a name.

I dream of you, of you and I

The wind sweeps up the white gown I’m tumbling in. My hair covers my framed eyes. breath hot and heavy as I make my way. “Wait...” I say once more-you turn to smile at me. That same smile I’ve seen many before.

then I reach you, a joy uplifts me. This feeling of pure happiness is like candy. “I love you...” he says and the memories come flooding back again. I’ve seen you before-I’ve been here before. On the mountain where we had our first date. A beautiful view of the ocean; a beautiful view of you.

We got married here... had our first kiss here. Brought our children here. “I missed you beautiful” he says and I’ve realized that it’s been quite sometime since I last saw him. “I missed you to” the ache in my heart subsides.

Because I dreamt of you,

of you and I

”welcome home baby”
