Color of the sky

SarahBeth19

What color was the sky, the sea

Your eyes, so wild fierce and free

Blown away like lions seed

A shattered bit of memory

The color of the sky, the sea

Now gone as Edens final dew

Surrounded now by other hues

We have no choice we shall make do

Though gone are things so fresh so new

So clean and pure as Edens dew

We'll soon forget what we once saw

Took for granted never awed

The sky and sea will turn to grey

And so begins another day

As we forget what we once saw

One day by oceans side we'll stand

Toes dug deep into the sand

And know that something we have lost

Though what it was we had forgot

As by oceans side we stand

What color was the sky, the sea

Your eyes, so wild fierce and free

Blown away like lions seed

A shattered bit of memory

The color of the sky, the sea

  • Comment from author about the poem: Please share your own take on the poem in the comments before reading the rest of my note; I'd love to see how this poem speaks to you as a reader. The day that I wrote the poem I was particularly depressed, and wanted more than anything to know what it would be like to be happy again, because I had honestly forgotten. Then, during band class, my band teacher noticed how my crushes eyes perfectly matched the blue of his shirt. (Hey Mark!) Since a few days before, Mr. B had commented on my eyes matching my hoodie, that moment stuck in my head. I was thinking about that while I walked home, depression is like what would happen if the world lost a color, and everyone knew that we had lost it, we just couldn't figure out what it was. (The color symbolizing happiness) Sorry if that made no since, I'm only 13

This is really something I dig. The rhyming is cool. 5 lines per stanza is cool. The concept is cool and, at the moment for me at least, really relatable. Keep posting for sure, your style reminds me of the way that I write and I'd love to see more.
