Sedimentary

bethc4rtwright

Deposition, cementation,

drop, squash,

sediments settle,

at piece and in ease,

float aimlessly obeying gravity,

obeying rules,

following their pre-paved path,

but others follow,

Deposition, cementation,

layers pile up,

sediments suffocate,

at war and in panic,

forced hopelessly obeying society,

obeying rules,

following their pre-paved path,

and others follow,

Deposition, cementation,

claustrophobia kicks in,

it hits hard,

knocking the air out of your lungs,

you gasp for air,

but it is that of others,

we share,

thoughts, beliefs, personality, vanity,

because we’re following the rules of gravity,

walking our pre-paved path,

our feelings,

drop, squash,

deposition, cementation,

deposition, cementation,

deposition, cementation.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem uses the formation of sedimentary rock as a metaphor for the pressures of others in society. There are two main steps in the process, deposition and cementation, which in many ways, explains how feelings are compressed and ignored.
