  • Comment from author about the poem: Someone once said: “Religion is the opium of the people.” It’s been repeated many times since. My own faith tradition teaches that Christianity was birthed from the Mother of God, Mary. A real human being both pure and graced with an Immaculate Heart, Mary, a young woman whom first proclaimed “Let it be done to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38) miraculously conceived Jesus Christ in her womb and then gave birth to him in a humble manger in Bethlehem some many months later. Today, thousand upon thousand Christian denominations exist. Where Christ desired and preached one true Church, multitudes now exist: diluted, watered down, cut with the poisons of heresy, greed, and manipulations of every form. Yet, surrounded by God’s goodness, mercy, and loving tenderness, the grace of God, continuously works to bring all of mankind together through the salve of Christ’s salvation. Moving, saving grace for all eyes to see and for all souls to receive if they would but first choose to do so. And this despite our very best human efforts to corrupt and move something less than the unadulterated truth to all the masses throughout every age. A motive of credibility, and as we say in the Catholic world: ex opere operato, or “from the work worked” that God can and does work healing and conversion through the work of less than perfect instruments.

A fine write Gary. I suppose I differ somewhat with my Protestant background.
I'm uneasy about 'Prayers to Mary' tacked on to the end of some High-Church Anglo-Catholic services.

No problem Orchidee; I’ve come to sincerely believe that our Lord desires it given His own special affinity for His Mother. Anything a mother would do for her Son is going to be OK with me.
