Tune: Lancashire
('The day of Resurrection')
Mark 16 v.9-14 part
*********
St Mark here at his gospel's end
Though [it is] thought a page did rend
From that ending, though valid be
The words, testimony
Of Jesus' resurrection, see
Surely it cannot be
That gospel ends, no appearing
Of Him to make hearts sing
'Tis said, He appeared to Mary
Magdalene, He healed, see
healed her of seven devils, they
By His word could not stay
Though the people did not believe
Her word, did not receive
Her witness as true, though she saw
The Lord risen e'ermore
And too on the Emmaus road
To two of them He showed
His risen presence, true, behold
They then the others told
Again though, they di not believe
May think it a deceive
But the Christ did to them appear
They wondered, holy fear
Once without Thomas there, and then
He was with the group when
Jesus appeared, and did upbraid
Them, unbelief was staid
And hardness of heart too they had
When they could soon been glad
If believing testimony
From those who did Christ see
Yet we can share in gospel here
Rejoicing in Christ dear
Our Lord and Saviour, conquered death
Gave up His final breath
But now alive, He ever reigns
Had suffered earthly pains
Now our high priest in heaven above
Still shares with us His love
