I Am Me!

DesertWords

Somewhere between here and there,
just at the intersection of maybe and yes,
I decided to be me.

I have been someone else for a long time.
We have shared a name, but little else.
Appearance is important for him,
impression, acceptance.  I've gone along
for the ride.

But now those things are no longer on
my values list.  I will be what I will be.
I will sing off key if that pleases me, lay
on the grass at the park and count the
stars, say what I mean and mean what
I say.  I will be me.

And every day I will tell myself,
you are you,
and that's just fine.
